We are motivated to participate in projects linked to art, even more so when these projects gene rate a link that, in turn, help to continue disseminating one of the fundamental pillars of the Foundation: Create a dialogue between art and smell.
It is not the first time that we have collaborated with Cl audia Pagès, because this artist with a degree in fine arts from the University of Barcelona, an MFA from the Sandberg Institut (Amsterdam) and an artist in residence at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam builds her works around texts. She creates installations, vocal readings, performances and prints that manage to endow language with a deeper meaning, an almost palpable echo that makes it sculptural. Claudia’s pieces could easily be compared to micro plays that interrelate between each other where words take shape, are contextualized and create a visual landscape that criticizes the immediate environment through crude discourse.
Pagès dares, focusing her tenacious discourse on the logistics system and its connection with jurisdictional langu age, both operating in the verbal domain of a non-finite and violent gerund that has direct effect on bodies. Pagès’ artistic research directions speak about the circulation of maintenance and its role in preserving the status quo. The continuity of certain systems and institutions is maintained through what Pagès calls the “immobility of stable circulations” and the “containment architectures” that sustain power through specific flows of goods, capital, and value within a suspended space and captured in the present.
That speech, tenacious and contemporary, impacted us from the very first time and continues to motivate us when we collaborate with Claudia. This time, we have the opportunity to endow his work; exhibited in the group show curated by Alessando Rabottini that takes place at the Hubert Winter Gallery, Vienna; with a summer aroma, where the summer houses are bathed in a soft scent of Oleander, vivid cement and sea foam.
We invite you to discover more about Claudia, her speech and her impressive work. And please, if you have the opportunity to visit Claudia Pagès’s exhibition at the Hubert Winter Gallery in Vienna: Listen, Observe and above all Smell.
