In this episode of Art in Essence we talk with Madola, ceramist, painter, sculptor and multi-faceted artist of Catalan origin.
Madola is trained in the Massana School, the School of Work and the School of Arts and Crafts of Barcelona, centers where it will have ceramist teachers of the stature of Josep Llorens i Artigas and Angelina Alós.
Madola’s work is a perfect fusion between traditional (that which comes from the trade) and contemporary innovation. The artist takes as inspiration the Mediterranean territory that surrounds her in her daily life, as well as other more distant contexts that she knows thanks to her travels in Africa, Asia and America. Some of his references and influences are Gaudí, Miró and Tàpies.
Madola has exhibited individually and collectively in various countries of the world and has work permanently exhibited in various museums. From 1988, the artist produced large-format pieces for the public space, such as “Trinidad” (2014), installed in the Museu del Disseny in Barcelona or “Catalonia-Korea memory” (2004-2005), located in Icheon Park (South Korea).
She is a member of the Royal Academy of Sciences and Arts of Barcelona, the International Academy of Ceramics and the Work-Craft Council of UNESCO.
Her work LA SÈQUIA. SÈRIE: “AIGÜES NEGRES” from the colección olorVISUAL awakened in Ernesto an olfactory memory of wet soil, composed of moisture, earthy, fungus, rain and moss.
