In this episode of Art in Essence, we talk with Evru, a unique contemporary artist and great friend of Ernesto Ventós Omedes.
Albert Porta is a self-taught artist who presents his artistic career under the name of Porta. This profile will allow him to create until the late 60s and be introduced to the world thanks to the gallery owner René Metras.
Porta became Zush after taking on a new identity in 1968. Under this new name and identity, Zush founded the Evrugo Mental State, a state defined between the imaginary and the real through which the artist frames his creation. Zush creates and executes symbols, a language, an alphabet of his own, a flag, an anthem and even his own passport.
In 2001, at a retrospective exhibition (ZUSH TECURA) at MACBA (Barcelona), Zush announced his disappearance to give way to the birth of Evru. Evru defines himself as an ArtCienMist, a term that describes the amalgamation of three personalities: artist, scientist, and mystic.
Evru/Zush has received several awards for his production such as the City of Barcelona Prize (2000-2001) or the prize of the Contemporary Art Critic Association of Catalonia in 2003. His work has been featured in significant retrospective exhibitions that have taken place both nationally and internationally.
