To all of those who enjoy smells and essences, this month is full of activities thanks to the Brain Film Festival.
If you’ve never heard of the Brain Film Fest, it’s an international film festival about the brain, driven by the Pasqual Maragall Foundation and co-organized by Minimal Films. Through audiovisual creation and scientific dissemination, it shows citizens the multifaceted reality of the brain, from its abilities to its diseases and conditions, in a close way. It is the only festival of its kind in Europe and has been held annually since 2018 at the Center for Contemporary Culture of Barcelona (CCCB) during Brain Awareness Week, a global campaign to increase knowledge about the brain and the advances and benefits of research.
Interesting, right?
During the festival, we recommend three activities in which the sense of smell is very present, either because it is the protagonist or simply because we participate in the activity, and you already know how much we love “smelling” at the Foundation.
On Thursday, March 16 at 12:00, we will present the documentary “La Esencia de Ernesto” from the Foundation in the Sala Teatre. For the presentation, Gina, Director of the Foundation, and Alex Remadaker (director of the documentary) will introduce the documentary and briefly talk about Ernesto and the experience of being able to create such a beautiful documentary.
Ernesto essence – Free tickets
Right after, and as part of the documentary, there will be a conference by Laura López-Mascaraque, a Doctor in Neuroscience and researcher at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC).
The Art of Smell – Free tickets
It’s important to note that both activities are free! So, we invite you not to miss them.
Additionally, for those who enjoy our workshops, we’re happy to announce that at the festival, you’ll have the opportunity to attend one of our olfactory workshops led by Nicolás Rico. In this workshop, your olfactory perspicacity will be put to the test – What does this smell remind you of? It’s a workshop that proposes to work on olfactory memory through different essences. Through the olfaction and identification of each essence, the connection of smells with personal memories will be concretized. Aromas can be related to the experiences of the participants, which will highlight the importance of olfactory memory for humans.
