I have learned to draw the world in its colours, shapes, textures … I did not learn to consider but the aromas. Perhaps because I was taught to block out unpleasant smells. And I begin to suspect that this was so as to numb me to be able to put up with the most monstrous realities, because it is only in this way that we can be made to be accomplices, perfumed witnesses of images that, stripped of their smell, are nothing but televised reports.
