The Scent of Fall
The summer ends, the weather is dry and hot, and fall begins, with the arrival of the rains and changes in the colours of the landscape. The trees convert their leaves to yellow and brown tones, the leaves fall, becoming a damp carpet, giving us a set of smells that are more intense, more serene, and that are magnified with the moisture of rainy days.
It begins to get cooler and the days grow shorter; the city entices us out for a walk with a gentler light, wet pavements and sunsets with clouds reflecting a mix of red, orange, lilac colours… while the birds, with their songs, take their leave until the following year.
It is a time of chestnuts and their smell when roasted, of woodsy aromas with madrone berries, blackberries and red fruits… sweet scents. Also typical are the spicy smells with woody notes and damp earth just outside the city. And it is the season of wild mushrooms, with their scent of wet earth; these are the fruits of autumn, which Josep Pla associated with Gaudí’s imagery because of their prodigious forms.
Nature, which gives us new colours, smells and sensations in this period, can be found at Casa Vicens; whether in its garden or inside, reflected in its decoration: ivy and olive leaves, palm fronds, plant motifs… and warm colours in every room.
NASEVO’s work and Casa Vicens share a common link of scents and colours. There is nothing more evocative than smells, able to transport us to the faraway places and moments of memory. NASEVO’s works, whether artistic or olfactory, will help us make that transition. Through the scents of fall we will seek out the memories of Casa Vicens and also our own.
Lose yourself in the scents and colours!
